Professional writing workshops are small, focused groups that are both instructive and inspiring, in which the intention is “to move forward with our writing and our lives.” Participants are ready and willing to go to the next level with their writing, committing themselves to writing schedules and weekly assignments that get the job done through support and camaraderie.

Workshop One:  “The Art of the Personal Essay” ~ Mini-Memoirs for Practice or Publication

A personal essay is like a mini-memoir, and allows the author to articulate her most significant experiences, ideas, and inspiring stories in a brevity of words. In this workshop we will develop the practice and process of personal essay writing, then submit them to the magazines that fit with our stories. We’ll also work on creating powerful query letters to submit when necessary.

Ideal for anyone who would like to write a magazine article or short piece, polish it, and see it published!

Day & Time: To be announced each season

Workshop Two: “A Novel Approach” ~ Structure for Memoirs, Novels and Short Stories

Do you have a pile of “patchwork quilt pieces” scattered throughout your journals? Are you ready to start sewing it all up? This workshop is ideal for anyone who has a work in progress—a novel, short story or memoir and is ready to create and structure a story with compelling characters and powerful plotlines. In this twelve week session we will explore and develop all of the literary elements essential to fiction and creative nonfiction.
